I can spend hours beachcombing, lost in the beauty of the surf and pebbles looking for unusual pieces of seaglass which nature has, over time, slowly recycled into unique, irreplaceable little gems, which I lovingly transform into contemporary designer necklaces, bracelets and earrings.
Once useful objects such as bottles, vases, containers or lamps have been carelessly discarded or lost in the sea over many years (some probably Victorian), the sand, surf and pebbles have softened the shards, creating the frosty, smooth sea glass jewels that I collect today to recycle into objects of desire once again. Sea glass comes in a variety of stunning colours - the most common are green, brown and white. Very rare colours are pink, aqua, blue or purple, the extremely rare are orange, red, turquoise, yellow or teal. This beautiful and tactile material is a dwindling and finite resource, as we recycle more and reduce our impact on the environment.
The very nature of seaglass means it can never be mass produced, and no two pieces will ever be alike, similar yes, but always individual in shape and colour. After cleaning and carefully selecting pieces, I either wrap them by hand or drill them for 925 Sterling Silver to cradle in their new role as unique matchless pieces of naturally beautiful jewellery, complemented with semi precious stones or Swarovski® Crystals. My seaglass jewellery looks fantastic against natural fabrics such as silk, linen or cotton - or even better against bare skin! And is perfect for those balmy summer evenings when you want to feel individual and unique.
Samphire Seaglass - the ultimate in recycling - I hope you enjoy these frosted gems as much as I have as I collect, select and create.
I also design and make contemporary bead jewellery.
